Australian mobile operator Telstra has confirmed that the Galaxy Note 2 will not get the Android 4.2.2 update, and that instead it will move directly to a “newer version.”
A few days ago, a report revealed that certain Samsung devices, including the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3, may skip Android 4.2.2 entirely in favor of Android 4.3, which is most likely the “newer version” Telstra is referring to.
Here’s what Telstra posted on its update support pages:
Samsung have elected globally to skip the 4.2.2 update for this device and will instead go to a newer version of Android. No schedule has been provided for this update.
While Samsung has not mentioned anything about such updates, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Android device maker decide to go directly to Android 4.3 on certain devices.
Considering the increasing amount of Android 4.3 leaks – versions of the OS are available for the Galaxy S4 and Nexus 4 – it sure makes sense to expect Google to unveil Android 4.3 next week during its special media event.
In fact, earlier today we’ve seen yet another purported Nexus 7 specs screenshot that had Android 4.3 listed as the OS for the upcoming Android tablet.
