Three months ago, we met with the Xiaomi Mi Note, a simplified version of the flagship Mi Note Pro. Since then, the company received from the little news, so something really new, it seems, will have to wait. On the other hand, we have the opportunity to catch up. I suggest you get acquainted with a little comparison of two twins – the usual Mi Note and Pro-Version. In the article we look at how the performance of two different smartphone and whether to pay more for high-end model.
The models in the line: 2
Price Range: 15,999 – 15,999 USD

Visual differences
It’s no secret that ordinary Mi Note and Note Pro look identical, but the small differences between the models exist. Most small – the color of the packaging. Pro-version has a black box, and the rest of the products are supplied in cardboard boxes from unpainted. Unfortunately, the color of the filling had no effect, lies within the smartphone, charging cable, clip, and documentation.
The differences in the design of a little more interesting . For the average Mi Note the company chose white, black, pink color, and a version with a bamboo cover. Recall that the smartphone frame is made of metal, it acts as a side frame. The black and pink versions of the simple Mi Note alloy painted in body color, in white, and preserve the natural bamboo shade material.
Xiaomi Mi Note Pro (white) and the Xiaomi Mi Note (Black)
All versions Xiaomi Mi Note Pro have a golden frame, front side is always white, and the back can be white or golden (bronze) color. Unfortunately, for this Mi Note Pro bamboo cover does not exist. The last time we got acquainted with a smartphone with a wooden lid, and noted the unusual nature of such a decision, and now have two smartphones with glass backs.
It seems to me, that is completely harmonious look smart glass, and the disadvantages of this design are well known. In the first place they appear in the body slippery, well, black Mi Note actively collects fingerprints, because they always want to wipe the smartphone.
The rest of the impressions were the old – we qualitatively collected PHABLET with slim body. Recall that Mi Note and Mi Note Pro have similar cameras, speakers, support the work of two SIM-cards, so these moments, we are not going to dwell, they can read them in the first review. Let us consider the fundamental differences – displays and hardware platforms.
Display
Like many flagship 2015, Mi Note Pro ISP installed display with a resolution of 2K (2560 x 1440 5.7 ” 515 ppi), protective glass – Corning Gorilla Glass 3. At Mi Note screen “normal», FullHD. Putting the objective characteristics of the table:
shields | Xiaomi Mi Note | Xiaomi Mi Note Pro |
diagonal type, glass | 5.7 “, IPS, Corning Gorilla Glass 3
Resolution | 1920 x 1080 | 2560 x 1440 |
The density of pixels, ppi | 386 | 515 |
The maximum brightness | 439 | 363 |
The minimum brightness | 2,7 | 2,9 |
The measured contrast | 1: 940 | 1: 1283 |
In the Pro version below, the maximum brightness, primarily due to the high density of pixels heavier than “shine».
But the black color is deeper than the older model, so measurements show better contrast. On the other hand, 1: 940 – a good indicator for the IPS-matrix smartphone, so note the fundamental difference in image quality seriously. A similar situation with a screen resolution, differences between 2K and FullHD seen except on the AMOLED-matrix. In the case of Mi Note Note Pro and they are visible only in very small print at a distance of 10-15 centimeters. Obviously, no one will use such fonts to read and will not bring a smartphone so close to the eyes.
Color accuracy – Xiaomi Mi Note
Color accuracy – Xiaomi Mi Note Pro
The difference in the accuracy of the calibration screens of smart phones is littered range from Mi Note Pro. But “by eye” is noticeable that the display Note Pro gives pink color – it can be seen in the settings and applications, with a white background, or images to gray.
Comparison of color Mi Note (left) and Mi Note Pro (on the right)
The use of built-in color correction settings to improve the situation, but does not completely solve the problem. Therefore, both screens can be considered comparable in quality.
Hardware Platform
As a platform Mi Note Pro uses a modern top-end chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (64-bit), supplemented with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal. At Mi Note beguiling little easier – Snapdragon 801 (32-bit), «only” 3 GB of RAM and 16 or 64 GB of ROM. In addition, Mi Note is still working on the basis of MIUI v6, based on Android 4.4.4, while the basis of Mi Note Pro firmware is Android 5.0.2.
Let’s compare the benchmark results. At Mi Note there are two modes – normal and productive, for clarity, we ran tests in both:
Benchmarks | Xiaomi Mi Note (Android 4.4.4) | Xiaomi Mi Note Pro (Android 5.0.2)
Normal operation | Proizovoditelny mode
PCMark | 3425 | 4805 | 4630 |
AnTuTu | 35133 | 42991 | 46506 (32-bit) / 46759 (64-bit) |
3D Rating (OpenGL ES2.0) | 4544 | 6505 | 3449 |
3D Rating (OpenGL ES3.0) | 1678 | 3622 | 3207 |
Quadrant | 15241 | 23077 | 18242 |
3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited | 11087 | 19801 | 18352 |
Epic Citadel | 58,7 fps | 60,5 fps | 58,3 fps |
Geekbench 3 | 675/1568 | 992/3027 | 886/3975 |
Vellamo | 2556/1313/1619 | 4118/1573/1883 | 3818/1851/2072 |
It would seem, Mi Note Pro processor with a modern and up to date version of Android should “break» Mi Note, he’s weaker. In practice, the main power goes to service the increased screen resolution, so in many benchmarks flagship show lower results than the simple model in Performance mode.
However, during normal operation, including the use of the browser, menu navigation, downloading applications and other simple operations Mi Note Pro is a little bit faster. Subtle difference and to feel it , you need to simultaneously compare both smartphone.
A separate point – is heating the body, but even here the results of smart phones, the difference between which is placed in error measurements:
heating | Xiaomi Mi Note | Xiaomi Mi Note Pro |
Ordinary use | 31 ⁰S – housing 29 ⁰S – battery
Epic Citadel, 30 minutes | 46 ⁰S – housing 41 ⁰S – battery | 45 ⁰S – housing 43.5 ⁰S – battery |
Hours smartphones are also very similar. As Mi Note, Mi Note Pro will last day and a half, depending on the load. From low-end model it has a smaller discharge in standby mode, that is worth to say thank you Android 5.0, but a fundamental impact on the autonomy it does not have.
Results
In fact, the difference between the Mi Note and Note Pro comes down to the hardware and software (OS version) is different, because the screen older model has its own characteristics, can not call it definitely the best. Let’s compare prices and advantages of both models:
Xiaomi Mi Note | Xiaomi Mi Note Pro
key differences | + More Available colors + The choice between the models 16 and 64 GB – Android 4.4.4 | + A little bit faster than usual Mi Note + Actual hardware platform, 1 GB of RAM + Android 5.0.2 – Comparable the quality of the screen – The price |
Price in China (Aliexpress) | $ 350 -360 (16GB), $ 460 (64GB) | $ 510 (64GB) |
Price in Ukraine | 9-11,5 ths. UAH. (16 GB), ~ 13 thousand. UAH. (64 GB) | ~ 16 thousand. UAH. (64 GB) |
If you buy a smartphone in China, then the performance of the platform will have to pay about 10%, in Ukraine – about 25% to the cost of younger model 64 GB of storage. In the first case a nominal co-payment and rightly so, and the second choice is not obvious.
Personally, I was never able to come to a definite answer, because in the case of Xiaomi it all depends on perspective. On the one hand, the answer follows from the specifications alone, on the other – using MIUI least remember that on which version of Android it is based, and stock performance Snapdragon 801, subject to a 3 GB RAM is enough for the next year and a half. There is also a third opinion, because, as an alternative Mi Note Pro in Ukraine are the Huawei Mate7, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Meizu MX4 Pro and other interesting flagships.
Issue thanks online store Xiaomi.ua for the provision to review Mi Note Pro smartphones and Mi Note
