A ROM that allows the Galaxy Note 2 to run Android 4.4 KitKat is now available.

The new firmware can be accessed through OmniROM who released it earlier this week.

The AT & T Galaxy Note 2, T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2, the GT-N7100 and the GT-N7105 are the versions that are compatible with this new software.

Instructions on how to access the Android 4.4 KitKat ROM for the device could be found in the XDA-developers forum. Unofficial ROMS should be downloaded and installed with caution as they void warrantees on devices and erase memory. All data on the Notes should be backed up before owners start taking steps to install the software.

This latest ROM should be followed by many more as various developers such as ParanoidAndroid and CyanogenMod have already confirmed that they are working on their own versions set to be rolled out soon.

The Galaxy Note 2 is expected to receive the official Android 4.3, JellyBean update soon, but there has not been any mention of KitKat yet.

Note 2 users anxious to run Android 4.3 could download it at various Samsung service stations.

A report from Sam Mobile revealed that these centers currently have access to the update. A Note 2 user in India who got their device upgraded to the latest version of the software leaked a screenshot of the device running it.

The newest firmware is N7100XXUEMJ9 and features an Oct. build date. It is still unknown as to when Samsung will roll out the official update over the air or through Samsung KIES software. It should be before the end of 2013.

The Galaxy Note 2 launched in the fall of 2012 and has been one of Samsung’s most successful devices thus far.
