Verizon delivers Android Jelly Bean to Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 - Fiercemobilecontent

Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ) is upgrading Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Note 2 phablet to Google’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean mobile operating system.

Android Jelly Bean promises a smoother and more responsive UI, a revamped homescreen that automatically adapts to fit content and Google Now, which includes personalized information like local weather and traffic updates. The 246 MB over-the-air Verizon update also brings support for the Samsung Smart Switch content transfer application and preloads version 5.1.2 of the VZTones ringback tones app.

Verizon’s Android Jelly Bean update also touts improvements for signature features like Isis – the Near Field Communications-based mobile wallet spearheaded by Verizon, AT & T Mobility (NYSE: T) and T-Mobile US (NYSE: TMUS) – -as well as VZ Navigator and Verizon Wireless Backup Assistant Plus, and it promises a series of bug fixes, security patches and performance enhancements.

According to Google’s Android Developers dashboard, Android Jelly Bean 4.1.x and 4.2.x currently power 28.4 percent of all devices worldwide, up from 23 percent a month ago. Jelly Bean adoption now leads predecessor Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.x, which slipped from 29.3 percent in April to 27.5 percent.
