The Verizon branded Galaxy Note 2 is about to receive a comprehensive software update, which in addition to bringing Android 4.1.2, has a host of other tweaks too. While it’s not quite on par with Samsung’s own Premium Suite updates, Verizon has at least made the effort to add some value to its general software update, as well as improving the device’s overall performance.

Android 4.1.2 contains mostly bug fixes and performance improvements, but does also add one-finger control for dismissing notifications. It’s not the most recent version of Android, but it’s the final build of Android 4.1 before the release of Android 4.2. Verizon has listed its own changes, and they include bug fixes for Exchange email syncing, new airplane mode notifications, a fix for duplicate calendar entries after syncing, and the removal of the Zappos app.

Several other apps have been updated, such as VZ Navigator, VZ Tones, and ISIS Mobile Wallet, plus users should notice improvements in Wi-Fi connectivity, Exchange Active Sync and SMS messaging. Verizon has also added multi-window support for more apps – Gmail, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter are among those mentioned – plus Samsung’s Smart Switch app will be installed, and finally the ability to use multiple languages ??with Samsung’s own keyboard.

All these fixes, along with Android 4.1.2, have been wrapped up in a single update, which should be available now, so check Software Update to make sure. Verizon says the file is 246MB in size and it’ll take up to 20 minutes to download and install, so we’d say a Wi-Fi connection is essential for this one.
