Death and taxes.

Two certainties in life.

Right?

A few years ago, the privilege of paying taxes earned me – much to the consternation of my accountant – the joy of an Internal Revenue Service audit.

Even before my baseball playing days ended, I got involved in real estate. After retiring from the game, the dabbling in real estate became a full-time profession.

As a 1099 employee of my own company, my paychecks didn’t already have federal, state and Social Security taxes taken out, some of which would have been refunded to me after paying taxes if I were a W-2 employee.

With no interest, mind you.

After one particular fruitful year with my properties / developments, the displeasure of signing over a hefty amount of my earnings – based on a year of tough work, sacrifice and diligent future-time oriented investments – wasn’t exactly an idea I was happy with at the time.

Again, just imagine you were to pay all of your taxes at the same time, instead of having them pulled out of your monthly or bimonthly paychecks.

One big, fat, happy check, with a nice, fat whole number signed over to the IRS.

That wasn’t a fun day.

In the “for” line of the check, my anger at signing over a significant six figure amount to the IRS boiled over in the type of rage that once fueled my relief-pitching days for the Braves.

I wrote a choice, four-letter-word in the “for” line, followed by a much more pleasant “personal pronoun” (use your imagination).

The IRS didn’t take too kindly to the two-word statement – though they had no problem cashing the check.

I was audited.

When my accountant met with the IRS in a high-rise in Atlanta, a bureaucrat pushed the check across the desk and asked him, “Please ask your client not to write that on the ‘for’ line anymore.”

Moral of the story: In the “for” line of checks, don’t write a personal message to the IRS.

Perhaps the audit wouldn’t have occurred if I had refrained from writing a personal message on the check, but seeing the extraordinary dollar amount I owed the government for my hard work, sacrifice and overall risk that exists when one chooses to be an entrepreneur left me in a less-than-charitable mood.

Funny, the same message I put in the “for” line of my check to the IRS is the exact same message many conservative groups, nonprofits and tea party groups received from the same entity.

Scandals are rocking the Obama administration right now, but none cuts to the heart of corruption more than the IRS scandal – after all, it cuts directly into the pocketbooks of a lot of people.

Those organizations and people who want accountability in government and still believe the US Constitution was written as the bedrock of our laws – and not a document to arbitrarily look upon from time to time to validate the latest goal of the left – are now targets of a vindictive Obama administration.

When the Executive Branch can use an existing department of the federal government to target political enemies, you know accountability in government is done.

Instead of having proper checks and balances, you simply have a rigged game of chess.

You have “checkmate.”

You have a situation where potentially the president of the United States himself had a hand in the targeting political enemies by the IRS. Jeffery Lord of The American Spectator reported:

“According to the White House Visitors Log, provided here in searchable form by US News and World Report, the president of the anti-tea party National Treasury Employees Union, Colleen Kelley, visited the White House at 12:30 pm that Wednesday noon time of March 31, [2010].

“In short: The very day after the president of the quite publicly anti-tea party labor union – the union for IRS employees – met with President Obama, the manager of the IRS ‘Determinations Unit Program agreed’ to open a ‘ Sensitive Case report on the tea party cases, ‘as stated by the [inspector general's] report. “

The targeting of political enemies, using the IRS and its ability to audit individuals and charitable organizations, is a manifestation of the two-word phrase I wrote on a check to the IRS, earning me an audit in the process.

Death and taxes.

Two certainties in life, right?

Living in the age of Obama, you should by now understand that the primary certainty is that those who stand in the way of his agenda are only targets to be neutralized.

If the IRS can’t handle it, then Eric Holder’s Department of Justice will be called upon to do the job.

Meanwhile, the US Constitution all government employees are supposedly defending remains the primary causality.

Verizon and Sprint Galaxy Note 2 prices drop - StatesChronicle

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 remains one of the finest flagships delivered by Samsung. Its accredited performance has led to fans’ agitation over Galaxy Note 3. Galaxy S4 was released a month back and Note 3 is expected to be a bit similar to S4.

But Samsung has not stated anything over its plans to bring out the Note 3, but possibly it will be unveiled soon, considering the profitable performance of its predecessor. But much before the release of Note 3, Galaxy Note 2 prices have already dropped down and the device is being provided by major retailers at much lower prices.

note 2

Amazon has notably cut off Verizon and Sprint Galaxy Note 2 prices. If you are willing to commence a new account with US ‘largest network, or add a new series to the present account, then by fastening the deal through Amazon Wireless, Samsung’s finest flagship will put you back only $ 79.99 over a 2-year contract with the network. If you are looking forward to update your current line, you will be charged with some additional bucks, Note 2 being tagged with a price of $ 149.99.

However, with Big Red, charging $ 199.99 for the flagship, you will be able to save around 50 bucks. If you choose Sprint and are ready to commence a new line with Now Network, a larger price cut will be facilitated to you. The flagship will put you back only $ 49.99 in this case. But by attaching a new series to your present Sprint account, the Note 2 will be yours at $ 149.99, upgrading a current one will put you back $ 299.99. Of course, you will have to sign up a two-year contract with the carrier to get the discount.

This amazing price drop of Note 2 on Verizon and Sprint may motivate users to switch to this highly discounted offer.

iPad mini 2 vs. Galaxy Note 3, big screen size difference - Product Reviews

Later this year both Apple and Samsung will be updating two of their devices, with one a tablet and the other pretending to be one. We, Äôre talking about the iPad mini 2 and the Galaxy Note 3. It, Äôs obvious there will be changes to these devices, with Apple, Äôs tablet expected to be a little smaller while keeping the same display size, and Samsung, Äôs to see a slight increase in screen size to 6 inches.

So that means the iPad mini 2 will stick with a 7.9-inch screen and the Galaxy Note 3 will benefit from a (rumored) 6-inch display. It, Äôs this that will cause some confusion, as some of you would rather go for the Note 3 because the screen will only be about 1.9 inches smaller than the mini 2.

Going for the Galaxy Note 3 will have its pros and cons, because while you have a pretty decent screen size, and the ability to make calls, there are still limitations. The size for some is just too large to be classed as a phone, and begins to get very awkward trying to use with one hand, like you would with a standard smartphone.

However, the iPad mini 2 will be an even better tablet than its predecessor, and makes it a far more practical tablet for some because of its smaller size. Okay, the screen is smaller than the full size iPad and larger than the Note 3 will be, so is regarded as the middle ground. Then again, because it will not be able to make standard cell phone calls, this will draw people to phablets like the upcoming Note 3.

It, Äôs clear that even though Apple and Samsung are working to make the iPad mini 2 and Galaxy Note 3 better products than their predecessors, is seems some people still need a tablet and a phone, we just wonder where the cutoff point will be where the tablet makes a perfect smartphone as well?

UC Irvine Promises Action Against Racist 'Go Back 2 Africa Slave' Note - LAist

San Diego’s ABC affiliate 10 News (Screenshot)

A week after a racist note was slipped into the backpack of a freshman student at University of California, Irvine, the school has vowed to find and discipline the person or persons responsible.

Reading “Go back 2 Africa slave,” the note was found by Charity Lyons in the science library May 7. The L.A. Times says university police are investigating the note as a hate incident.

The Dean’s List student and track team member has been the target of racism in the past at the school. The week prior to receiving the offensive note, Lyons was called the N-word by an Asian student, according to her mother.

On Tuesday, Chancellor Michael Drake pledged to chastise the individual (s) responsible:

Last week we received information regarding an offensive note that was found in the backpack of one of our students. Our police department immediately launched an investigation. When apprehended the responsible individual (s) will face appropriate sanctions. We have clear and unwavering policies forbidding such hateful actions, and we take the security and well-being of everyone on campus most seriously. We do not, and will not, tolerate this kind of behavior.

Drake added that while the university celebrates its “continued progress in the fight for equity and inclusion,” “we know that the struggle is never quite complete.”

Of course, this is not the only recent example of racism at the school. In late April a video starring an Asian fraternity member sporting blackface sparked outrage at UC Irvine. The frat, Lambda Theta Delta, voluntarily suspended itself until fall 2014.

Even LA’s Department of Public Works is getting in on intolerance.

Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 3, has reportedly been confirmed to feature a 6in display.

The successor to Galalxy Note 2 is expected to feature 6in non-flexible display.

The successor to Galalxy Note 2 is expected to feature 6in non-flexible display.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3, according to Oled.display.net, featuring a 6in AMOLED display has been slotted for a release in the second half of this year.

As for the display technology, Samsung Display is expected to produce flexible AMOLED panels at the A2 P3 line with a production capacity for 24,000 sheets based on 5.5G.This is not enough to make a flagship with flexible display like the Galaxy Note 3.

In addition to that, Samsung Display has not entered into mass production for flexible OLED panels so far. Also, the supply of necessary equipment has not been finalised yet. The company is likely to begin production in the second half of 2013 but the supply would not be enough to meet the demand.

Hence, the Galaxy Note 3 will not have flexible AMOLED display.

This is contrary to an earlier report which claimed that the Galaxy Note 3 was expected to feature unbreakable OLED display. Samsung Display Corporation (SDC) was reported to be using a plastic substrate with LTPS (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) active matrix and RGB patterned OLED for the upcoming Galaxy Note 3.

The flexible plastic display is said to be thinner and lighter than the glass OLED display which is used for the current Galaxy Note 2. Besides, the flexible display panel is reasonably thinner and lighter than the regular LCD and glass AMOLEDs.

As for the other technical features, the Note 3 is rumoured to use Exynos 5410 chip featuring an octa-core processor, with four Cortex-A15 cores running at clock speeds of up to 2GHz and the remaining four Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.2GHz. The Exynos 5 chip will also integrate 3GB of RAM.

The Note 3 will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software. It will be available in 32GB storage variant with support for microSD card for additional storage.
